Practical information for parents and children

Edupage

At Global Minded, we use the school information system EduPage.

The main goal of the school system is to provide you parents with better information about what is happening in Global Minded and involve you even more in what is happening at the school. We hope that we will enable you to better understand our school, our values and support mutual cooperation, without which we cannot exist.

We use EduPage mainly for:

  • Sharing of Weekly plans – you can see all Weekly plans clearly in EduPage in the “Noticeboard” section.
  • Sharing photos from school days, events and trips – in the “Photos” section we share with you everything interesting that is happening here.
  • Excuse notes – EduPage has a special and very simple function for excuse notes. You enter the excuse conveniently via the application on your phone (or from the web interface) and the teacher and the office will immediately see it and confirm its receipt.
  • Organization of parent-teacher conferences – in Edupage, you book a consultation time with a teacher.
  • Canteen menu publication – in the “Canteen” section you can see what your children have for lunch and snacks.
  • Sharing important information with parents – in the “Noticeboard” section or through messages we will send you various information and notifications, for example copies of tests or end of semester reports.
  • We will continue to use MS Teams wherever we communicate with children – i.e. for online teaching or assigning homework.

EduPage is our main tool for communicating with parents. In addition to EduPage, you can communicate with the teacher and management during regular online consultations or when picking up your child from school.

You can use the system via a web interface or, even better, in a mobile application that you can download for free from the App Store or Google Play.

Weekly plan and self-assessment

The “Weekly plan” is our form of weekly report. We write the report a week in advance and structure it more into clear sections. Thus, in our presentation, the Weekly plan has four different functions:

  • A planning tool for teachers – and for parents and children, e.g. in case of absence
  • Information tool for children and parents – events, tasks, reminders…
  • Self-assessment tool for individual profile subjects
  • A self-assessment and self-regulation tool for reflecting on one’s own feelings and actions

Important times and organization of lessons

The school is open on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Teaching times vary slightly for individual classes (due to limited parking in front of the school and logistics in the locker room):

from 8,25 until 14,40 – 5th grade

from 8,35 until 14,30 – 3th and 4th grade

from 8,45 until 14,20 – 1st and 2nd grade

The beginning of classes means that the child is ready in the classroom, welcomed with friends and can start participating in the program. Teaching at the school takes place in blocks at approximately the following times:

7.30 – 8.40

Morning school club

8.30 – 10.00

1st learning block

10.00 – 10.30

Snack

10.30 – 12.00

2nd learning block

12.00 – 13.00

Lunch and relaxation

13.00 – 14.30

3rd learning block

All classes have the same share of the Czech and English program within the week, i.e. 3 days of the Czech program and 2 days of the English program. We maintain the principle of full days in a given language, which is a tool and a very important condition for so-called linguistic purity when teaching in more than one language. Global Minded has accreditation to teach selected subjects in English. This is the highest form of formal accreditation for teaching subjects in a foreign language that a school can obtain in the Czech Republic.

Parent-teacher conferences

Once a month, individual consultations with your child’s teacher take place at a predetermined date. Consultations are conducted by Czech class teachers for most of the year. In November and March, the consultation is conducted by the English class teacher. For each consultation, information from the Czech and English program is provided. In 4th and 5th grade consultations, in addition to the parent and teacher, the student is also present, unless the parent wishes otherwise.

We send invitations to the consultation via EduPage. Consultations take place online via MS TEAMS, so you can handle them from the comfort of your home or office.

After school club and activities

The school provides a morning club for children from 7:30 a.m. and an afternoon club until 5 p.m. The morning club is included in the school fees, the afternoon club is charged according to the number of days the child uses it.

As part of the club, we have a large selection of morning and afternoon activities for your children. That means you don’t have to pick up your children and drive them to different clubs yourself.

What to bring with you to school

You don’t need a big school bag, a nice multi-purpose rucksack is enough, which will also be useful for trips. But still, most first-graders have a nice school bag at home. ☺

Slippers (not crocs – neither strong enough nor safe enough!)

A drinking bottle that the child takes home to rinse out daily

Gym clothes and shoes (once a week on Friday)

Pencil case

Compared to a regular school, the child does not have a lot of preparation and responsibility here, so it is important to lead him to the fact that he is responsible for the pencil case, drinking bottle and diary and carrying it to/from school and for the condition of its contents.

We do not bring textbooks home every day, but only as needed and agreed with the teacher.

Telephones and electronic devices

We do not use mobile phones, tablets, smart watches and other devices that have the nature of a communication device or a device used to connect to the Internet, with the exception of blocks and parts of the program where the teacher uses school technology/electronics or encourages children to use their technology/electronics. This rule is not debatable. This does not mean that we want to oppose the education of children in the direction of digital competence, on the contrary – even in our thematic plan this year, we have many points that develop in this area.

If the children keep their phones and other electronic devices in the locker in the locker room, please turn them off.

MS Teams and distance learning

Each of our students has their own MS Teams account. It is our primary tool for distance learning. We can also do hybrid teaching, in which case the child connects online with his classmates who are physically sitting in the classroom. But we cannot pretend that it is not redeemed by something – unfortunately it is, and that is the quality of teaching for the children who sit in the classroom. Therefore, parents, we ask that children use hybrid education only when they are sick and there is no other way.

Reading, library and Libib app

In the English and Czech programs, it is very important in our concept to support children in such a way that they will READ outside of school – anything, anywhere, but FOR THE YOUNGER ONES WITH YOU AND EVERY DAY AND OUT LOUD (until the end of the 3rd grade) and for the OLDER ONES WITHOUT YOU and quietly , but don’t forget to talk to your child about his reading and ask him questions. Reading should be fun for them to choose what they read.

The Global Minded school has several hundred books available for children to borrow home. We follow the book market and buy new books every year, including books that are the best in their category on the Czech and international scene.

We manage the library electronically in the Libib application, and the parents of our students have access to it, which allows them to view the books together with their children and, if necessary, select them for borrowing. Here is a link to the list of our books:

The children will be responsible for the borrowed books together with you, and therefore we ask you to take care of the books and return them after reading. We cannot lend a child another book until the previous one is returned.

Project days, trips, excursions

In addition to the educational effect, we want to support an even greater connection between individual classes, children and teachers. Therefore each month, children from all classes can choose from 3 different trips that take place on the same day. The range of trips is based on what our teachers like and what they like to do and what they understand. This guarantees both a diversity of activities and also that the children learn as much as possible and see an enthusiastic teacher, which is important and inspiring for children in such activities! It goes without saying that it is actually great even for the teachers themselves.

Catering

At Global Minded and Tetty kindergarten, we not only have lunches for children, but also morning and afternoon snacks. The children just need to bring a bottle of water and we take care of the rest. We buy lunches and snacks from a supplier who brings them to us freshly cooked and prepared every day. The food travels to us from Hostivice near Prague, i.e. to schools and kindergartens within easy reach. The supplier can also help with dietary lunches. He also responded very well to our call that we didn’t want industrial bakery products for snacks, but that we wanted quality fresh bakery products and sourdough bread, and he arranged for us a new artisan bakery supplier. You can view a weekly menu in the EduPage application:

Physical Education

P.E. takes place every Friday from 12:30 – 2 p.m. In September and June, we take advantage of the nice weather and exercise outside in the grounds of the Denkrova pískovna just above the school and in the other months in Sokolovna in Bubeneč. We can walk to Denkrova pískovna, we take a bus to Sokolovna and back.
